High-level Baseline Assessment

Article summary

Purpose

This article summarizes how the High-level Baseline Assessment application works and what you can use it for.

What purpose does the Baseline Assessment application serve?

The Baseline Assessment app helps you assess where a given company is in the digitalization process. The application asks the company a series of questions and, based on these, helps you start using Tulip. The questions include general questions about the operation of the company, but there are also specific use case questions that shed light on potential areas for improvement. After finding these areas, the Baseline Assessment application offers instantly downloadable applications and other content from the Tulip Library. In addition to the applications, the user is recommended the educational materials of Tulip University and the Knowledge Base to help get the most out of the Tulip platform.

How to use the application?

Using this application is as simple as filling out any form. The user has to answer all the questions to get a personalized guide on how to get started with Tulip.

To start the assessment, run the app in the browser as a test or on the player.

The first step is to provide basic information about the company, such as the name of the company or the industry in which it operates. Then, the questions relate to the development of production, and what is the goal of the given company with the implementation of Tulip. During the higher-level questions, the user has to think about different use cases and the priority of their goals.

Outputs of the survey will be included at the end of the assessment

How to build your own assessment application?

General idea

When you build an application you have to think about the person using the application. This is especially important in an assessment application. The assessment should be quick and easy to fill, but detailed enough to collect all the information needed for the next steps.

Building the application

This assessment can also be used as a starting point for other operations baseline assessments such as lean assessments or IT/OT maturity assessments. Feel free to add to this starting point to streamline how multi-plant customers baseline and assess each site.

The assessment questionnaire is an app-based structure, which means that all the answers are written inside the app and the answers are stored as app variables. The answers can be given in free text inputs or single/multi-select inputs.
The completed information can also be stored as a table or a completion record for further analysis.

At the end of the app, it is beneficial to give the user a brief summary of their answers to show that you understood their priorities correctly, and give a few options for the next steps. It is also important to communicate the context throughout the app to make sure that the user knows exactly what benefit comes from the assessment.

The free text allows the user to share their thoughts, however, it may take much more time to fill and it is harder to analyze. On the other hand, the selectable answers simplify the assessment process and are easy to analyze at the end.
