Article summary

Break Beam Sensor Unit Test

Use this application in order to test whether your break beam sensor is connected and is functioning correctly

Purpose

The purpose of the Break Beam Sensor Unit Test application is to allow users to test whether their break beam sensors are connected correctly and are functioning as desired. This application also explains the difference between pin up motion and pin down motion on break beams. The break beam sensor unit test makes use of a I/O gateway and a break beam sensor, so please make sure to have this equipment on hand before using this application.

Video Overview of Application

Setup

In order for this application to be used, an I/O gateway and a break beam sensor are required.

How it works

This application makes use of a Tulip I/O gateway, and a Tulip break beam sensor along with trigger logic based on the output received at the Tulip I/O gateway. For the first part of the application, in order to test connectivity, the user has to enter the output pin the break beam is connected to as well as the corresponding I/O pin, in order for the break beam to be powered up and tested correctly. Once the break beam has been powered on, Place your hand above/under the break beam sensor, and then move your hand away in order to trigger the sensor. If you see the box changing color between green and gray, that means that the break beam sensor is working.

The application also has a section explaining the difference between pin up motion and pin down motion and how they can be used in different situations based on at what moment you want to trigger the break beam. The pin up test and pin down test allow you to experiment with this and see the moment at which the box turns green, indicating that the break beam has been triggered.
