Steps don't need to transition in chronological order. Triggers can move users through steps in any order. Steps make up most of your application. Steps can be adjusted in just about any way to fit your needs. Any [Widgets](/r230/docs/widgets) can be added to a step. Steps can also have Triggers that run when the step is first displayed, or when the step is complete. Read more about step-level triggers [here](/r230/docs/step-level-triggers). ## Step Groups Step Groups are folders for app steps primarily to help organize your applications. Step groups can be added within step groups, to further organize your applications. ![Step Groups.png](https://cdn.document360.io/7c6ff534-cad3-4fc8-9583-912c4016362f/Images/Documentation/Step%20Groups.png) Additionally, step groups can be leveraged to do bulk operations like rearranging/duplicating steps and printing step groups. ### Form steps and signature forms Warning As of r235, Form steps have been disabled for all new Tulip Instances. Form Steps streamline data collection use cases but lack much of the flexibility and reusability of normal steps. Form steps are only recommended for cases where the use case is heavily reliant on data collection and where extensive customization of functionality isn't required. ## Base Layout The Base Layout is the base template that all other steps will be built on top of. Establishing common navigation buttons, and a consistent app background and style across all of your app steps can expedite the training and app-building processes. Additionally, Base layout can have their own Step Level Triggers, enabling you to add logic that will run throughout your application. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7c6ff534-cad3-4fc8-9583-912c4016362f/Images/Documentation/Intro%20to%20the%20Tulip%20App%20Editor_511473104.png) Steps are the building blocks of applications. Steps can be grouped into **Step Groups** to manage and organize your app Steps. **Trigger** **Triggers** are groups of logic that are tied to an app event, such as step open, timer, widget interaction, etc. App builders can add triggers to **widgets**, **machines**, **devices**, **apps**, and **steps**. **Triggers** can contain **actions**, **transitions**, and **conditions**. **Step Groups** **Step Groups** are a mechanism to organize and group individual steps. Step groups can be duplicated/deleted and reordered like individual steps. **Tulip Instance** A Tulip customer account. Your instance can be found at https://[your-instance].tulip.co When *your instance* is referenced, we are just talking about your Tulip account on an organization-level, not user-level. **Form Step** **Form Steps** are a special type of **S****tep** that is designed specifically for data entry. They lack some of the flexibility of normal steps but can streamline app creation. Steps can be grouped into **Step Groups** to manage and organize your app Steps. *Form Steps have been disabled for every new **instance** in r235/LTS9.* **Base Layout** The **Base Layout** is the base template that all other **S****teps** will be built on top of. Establishing common navigation buttons, and a consistent app background and style across all of your app steps can expedite the training and app-building processes. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7c6ff534-cad3-4fc8-9583-912c4016362f/Images/Documentation/Intro%20to%20the%20Tulip%20App%20Editor_511473104%201.png) **Step-Level Trigger** A **step-level trigger** is a trigger configured with each app step. Step-level triggers can be triggered based on 4 actions: 1. Step Opened 2. Every X seconds (Timer) 3. Machine/Device outputs data 4.
