# Set up an Edge IO

## Purpose

*How to set up an Edge IO for the first time*

The Edge IO uses the same Edge Device Portal as the I/O Gateway and Edge MC. This article will outline how to connect the device.

## Physical Setup

1. Locate 24V power port
2. Plug supplied power cable
3. Plug the other end of the power cable into a power outlet
4. Verify heartbeat LED (HRTBT) turns on and blinks

1. Plug Ethernet cable into WAN port

1. Plug the other end into an active Ethernet outlet and verify lights on the WAN port are blinking.

**Edge IO**

**Edge MC** is a Tulip-developed **Edge Device**. run **Node-RED**flows on dedicated hardware with built-in security and stability.

**Edge Mc**can also act as a **Connector Host**or OPC-UA Broker
